Tel Amiel completed his PhD in Instructional Technology at the University of Georgia. He is currently Researcher at NIED/Unicamp in Brazil. He has previously been a visiting fellow at the University of Wollongong and Stanford University and a visiting professor at Utah State University. His interests are related to historical notions of openness and its limitations and application in basic and higher education (particularly teacher professional development).
Conducting research and policy change at the Open University of Brazil in partnership with DED (Ministry of Education). Research involves questonnaires to faculty in over 100 public institutions in regards to openness and OER, and the development of an open course on OER and Open Education (to be delivered late 2017).
Currently assisting the Ministry of Education of Brazil in implementing OER principles into two national repositories. One for higher education (EduCAPES) and another for basic education (Portal MEC).
Co-hosted the regional Latin America and Caribbean Consultation to the 2nd OER World Congress.
The Chair is a partner in the recent (2017) Open Education Initiative, aimed at awareness raising in regards to Open Education and OER in the region.
